Smok V8 Kit Review

The Smok Stick V8 kit is the latest pen-style sub ohm device from one of the most popular vape companies that is out there, Smok. Will the V8 kit live up to my expectations, or will it just end up in my ‘Shoulda done your homework’ box?

What’s in the box?

The kit comes in the usual black box covered with the lava/volcanic Smok image sleeve with all the useful info on the back. And includes the following:

  • Stick V8 Battery (3000mAh)
  • TFV8 Big Baby Tank 24.5mm
  • V8 Baby M2 Core 0.15ohm
  • V8 Baby M2 core 0.25ohm
  • USB Cable
  • Users-Manual
  • Vape Band
  • Spare parts

First, a quick word about the coils.

The two ‘stock coils’ have no wattage numbers engraved on them; which I thought was a little strange. However the Smok company says the Baby M2 coils are designed specifically for the V8 stick battery since it pumps out a consistent 20amps discharge. On these coils are the words Direct Output. They do however have Ohm readings on them, and the ones in my kit read 0.15ohm and 0.25ohm respectively. Despite my searching of Smok’s website and the net, I could not find what wattage the V8 Stick can pump out. The general consensus from reviewers is around 50 watts. The V8 is an unregulated mod which simply means that as the voltage drops so will the power [wattage].

A few key features worth mentioning

The battery is an absolute monster, weighing in at 3000mAh. This can last you most of the day and power up just about anything you care to put on it. There is no screen or any settings to worry about. Just charge, and vape away.

There is a swivel top-fill TFV8 Big Baby tank which is simply outrageous. You get clouds that just keep coming while the flavor profile is in a word excellent. It has a 5ml tank and it’s known to be a juice guzzler.

The main key features has to be its ease of use. From filling to swapping out the coil and of course, being able to just hit that firing button and vape.  This is indeed one simple to use device.

Design and Build Quality

Build wise, the V8 everything you’d expect from Smok. The connections are precise and buttery smooth with a huge bottom airflow ring which has pretty good resistance when you turn it; guaranteeing it won’t budge so much as a millimeter in your pocket. Design wise it’s very similar to Smok’s Brit One and their Vape Pen 22. It’s chubby and chunky and is the perfect bag or pocket mod. I got the black version and it really looks like a top end mod. It’s also available in stainless steel and a magnificent rainbow color.

The charge port is located high on the side with a little LED light that lets you know when it’s fully charged. The V8 supports pass-through vaping, which simply means that it allows you to vape while it’s charging.

The fire button will flash 4x each time you puff and will it flash 15x when your voltage is below 3.3v and time to charge. Aside from the Smok logo one side and the Stick V8 writing on the other side, the device remains refreshingly uncluttered.

Safety Aspects

  • 8 second shut off
  • Low resistance protection
  • Short circuit protection
  • Low voltage protection

How Does Smok Stick V8 Perform?

You will get clouds that last forever and the flavor is just sensational. The V8 Baby M2 Core .0.25 ohm dual coil gave me a superb performance. As soon as I vaped on the 0.15ohm things got a lot more fun.

The V8 is an absolute monster; it’s a cloud chucking demon and then some. Taste wise, if I am to be honest there was just the tiniest and I do mean tiny dip in the flavor I was expecting. It was just a tad but something worth mentioning.

Smok is marketing this as a ‘starter kit’. I wouldn’t recommend this to a new vaper who is just beginning – if anything it’s a starter kit for those who wish to get into sub-ohm vaping.

That said, experienced sub ohm vapers will definitely find it a pleasure to use and it’s perfect for out and about vaping.
